    High performance electrical steel is one of the important raw material products indispensable for the modernization construction, highquality development and people's life in China. It is also the development direction of highquality development, product upgrading, energy conservation and environmental protection of electrical steel industry in China.The production capacity of electrical steel, the capacity of normalization (acid pickling), the capacity ,output change and apparent consumption of electrical steel in recent five years, were studied and analyzed in this paper ,as well as the future demands of transformer to high magnetic induction oriented electrical steel (HiB), and medium and small motors, large motors, household appliances, new energy vehicles, emerging fields, etc. to high grade (high efficiency, high magnetic induction) nonoriented electrical steel, and electric power, aerospace, medical devices and household appliances etc. to extremely thin electrical steel strip (the thickness less than 0.1 mm). At the same time, the demand of high performance electrical steel in China is predicted and some suggestions are put forward.

    The annealing coating unit for high brand nonoriented silicon steel used in new energy vehicles in WISDRI (Xinyu) Cold Rolling New Material Technology Co. Ltd. was introduced in this paper, especially for the main technological equipments and their characteristics, such as high speed and high efficiency annealing coating unit, cleaning technology of green and energy saving and environmental protection , annealing furnace of high efficiency and energy conservation,  micro tension control technology for high temperature invironment in furnace, and some intelligent manufacturing technologies like intelligent mathematical mode of annealing furnace, intelligent model for predicting magnetic properties of silicon steel. The production practice showed that it can basically realizes the intelligent goal of the whole unit with fewer people, local unmanned and centralized control and monitoring.

    According to the development trend of domestic nonoriented silicon steel in recent ten years and the future development prospect of downstream industry, the demand of domestic nonoriented silicon steel in the next 15 years is predicted. It is estimated that by 2025, 2030 and 2035, the annual demand of nonoriented silicon steel in China will be 11.25 million tons, 13 million tons and 15 million tons respectively. Among them, the proportion of medium and high grade brands should be increased from 20% to 30%, 40% and 50% respectively. It is the general trend to focus on the development of medium and high grade nonoriented silicon steel. However, in the future, medium and high grade nonoriented silicon steel will face fierce market competition, so we should improve the market competitiveness from two aspects of product quality and cost control.

    The characteristics of the motors used in electric drive cars and the requirements for silicon steel were described, and the electromagnetic properties and mechanical properties of high yield strength nonoriented silicon steel and traditional nonoriented silicon steel were compared and analyzed by experiment. Through the verification and analysis of the finite element model, the highyieldstrength silicon steel motor can achieve the characteristics of low loss and high mechanical strength at high speed, which can help for the application of soft magnetic materials and the optimization of motor structure to form a closed-loop mode.

    According to the application requirements of high-performance grain-oriented (GO) silicon steel for electical equipments such as power frequency energy saving transformer, medium frequency isolation transformer , and low frequency transformer, the electromagnetic characteristics of 0.10-0.27 mm GO steel under different working frequencies were studied by an arbitrary waveform magnetic field excitation measurement system. Compared with 0.10 mm ultrathin GO steel, 0.18 mm high magnetic induction GO steel has lower core loss in the frequency range of 15-400 Hz. The core loss of 0.18 mm sample is not only lower than that of 0.23 mm and 0.27 mm products in the rolling direction (RD), but also has the advantage of minimum loss in the transverse direction (TD). However, for materials with the same thickness, low loss in RD does not mean low loss in TD. The differences of electromagnetic characteristics of silicon steel with different thickness were analyzed, and the results can support the core materials selection of different types of transformer. Finally, the future development trend of thin-gauge GO steel was prospected in terms of the performance requirements of core materials for power frequency, medium frequency and low frequency electical equipments.

    Quality supervision and evaluation were conducted on the grian-oriented (GO) silicon steel used for power transformers/reactors in the 220-1 000 kV substation project newly built and expanded by State Grid Corporation of China from 2020 to 2023. A total of 175 substation projects, 24 transformer manufacturing enterprises, and 3 GO steel production enterprises were involved. Based on the technical conditions and testing method standards of GO steels, over 20 000 pieces of GO steel samples, including 23 grades such as 20QH070, 23QH075, 27QH085, and 30QH100, were randomly inspected. Overall, the failure rate of performance has been decreasing year by year, and the problems in magnetic properties, coating performance, and appearance quality of batch supplied GO steels have been identified. By continuously conducting quality assessments of GO steels, we have provided strong support for strengthening the source control of power transformer quality and helping to build an inherently safe power grid.

    In recent years, under the background of energy conservation and emission reduction, major countries in the world have issued mandatory high efficiency distribution transformer standards.Our country issued the new standard GB 20052-2013 in 2013, which was updated on May 29th 2020 and will be enforced in 2021. To meet the updated transformer standards and energy efficiency upgrade, it is important to enhance the magnetic properties of core materials. Baosteel had developed new products B18R055 and B20R060 in the fourth intelligent factory of silicon steel, which were successfully used for grade S15 energy efficiency distribution transformers. The typical properties of B20R060 product were two grades higher than the highest grade of international  silicon steel with the same thickness, and the B18R055 product is the lowest iron loss oriented silicon steel in the world. In this paper, the properties and transformer performance of B18R055 and B20R060 are introduced, expecting favorable for material selection of transformer manufacturers.

This paper studied the development changes of electrical steel in China, introduced the development course of China' s electrical steel industry from nothing to existence and from weakness to strength, from the aspects of the production capacity, the output, the apparent consumption, the import and export quantity, the production and technology, and so on. Meanwhile the positive policies, the adverse factors, the downstream industries related with electrical steel were analyzed, the demand growth of electrical steel in China was forecast, and some suggestions were put forward.

    The causes of white stripe defects on the surface of grain oriented silicon steel were analyzed. The surface morphology was observed by threedimensional video microscope, the crosssection morphology of the steel and the surface morphology of the defect area after pickling were observed by field emission scanning electron microscope, and the energy spectrum composition was analyzed by energy spectrum analyzer. The analysis result showed that there was elliptical insulation layer falling off in the white stripe defect, and the magnesium silicate substrate in the defect area was abnormal, of which the thickness was much thicker than the normal area. It indicated that the white stripe defect area had been damaged before coating magnesium oxide. After pickling, the spicules with the main composition of O, Al and Si were found in the defect area of white stripe. It was found that the spicules originated from the refractory used in decarburization annealing furnace. The refractory fiber fell and adhered into the surface of the steel strip during decarburization annealing, and was pressed into the strip surface in the process of secondary rolling, which destroyed the oxide film, and affected the formation of the magnesium silicate substrate, and caused the white strip defect on the surface of the steel production after high temperature annealing. This kind of defect has been eliminated by improving the use method of insulating refractory fiber.

    Gas chromatographic analysis is a common technique to detect oilimmersed transformers in operation. By collecting a small amount of transformer oil samples to analyze the gas composition and content in the oil, it can be judged whether there are faults or hidden dangers in the transformer.The coils and cores of oilimmersed transformers are all installed in transformer boxes and immersed in transformer oils, so it is impossible to observe the hidden trouble of transformer directly. The application of gas chromatography to transformer detection can fully solve this problem. In this paper, the gas chromatography was used in practice, and quickly discovered the hidden trouble of the equipment, which provided an effective means to deal with the hidden trouble of the equipment thoroughly and guarantee the stable operation of the equipment.

    Epstein frame samples of the silicon steel of 35SW440 were produced by two stress relieving annealing processes of continuous annealing and well annealing. The comparative investigations were conducted on the relationships between the two stress relieving annealing process and their microstructures, precipitation and magnetic properties. The results showed that after stress relief annealing, the iron loss reduced and the magnetic induction improved. Compared with the well type annealing process, the iron core of the steel produced by continuous annealing process had poor magnetic properties under the condition of high magnetic density due to the obvious surface nitriding phenomenon on the surface of the steel. The surface nitriding was due to the unreasonable design of the protective atmosphere and annealing process, resulting in a large number of fine and dispersed AlN precipitates produced in steel. AlN precipitates affected the movement of domain wall and magnetic moment, resulting in the deterioration of magnetic properties. By contrast, the well annealing process reduced the iron loss of the electrical steel sheet under high magnetic density, and improved properties index of iron core due to the effective control of the surface nitriding in steel.
