    Development of steelmaking and continuous casting technology and prospect of this technology in 2010 in China

    The present paper systematically has summerized the development of steelmaking-continuous casting technology and its principal technological achievements in China since 2000, analyzed its main problems currently existing and predicted the direction of the development of this technology in 2010 in our Country. In order to further raise the the productional and technological level of steelmaking-continuous casting technology in China it’s imperative to develop new concept and establish new target for the iron and steel works of the new generation of the 21st Cerntury and in the meanwhile build up a new platform for production of the hgih efficient and low cost clean steel by means of systematical optimization,dissection and integration of the over-all process of the steelmaking-continuous casting. The main problems of technology existing in building up the platform of production of the clean steel, solutions to those problems and specific measures are also involved in the disccusion of this paper.

    The solidified shell thickness and solidification coefficient of slab in the secondary cooling zone of Angang thick slab caster have been accurately determined by using the “pin shoot” method, thus providing an important basis for judgement on the cooling capacity of secondary cooling system and establishment of a reasonable water distribution schedule in secondary cooling zone as well as determination of the process parameters under the high speed casting condition.

    Experiment and application of the direct reduced iron in refining the steel grades in converter instead of the scrap has been carried out in an 80 t Converter in the 2nd Steel-making Plant of Taigang. Results indicates that the reasonable proportion of the DRI in replacement of scrap is 35 %-50 %. By using part of the dirct reduced iron the dephosphorization ability of the converter has been raised by 2.4 %. For an 80 t converter, charge of 5 t direct reduced iron will increase consumption of 9.3 kg/t lime. Results also shows that by adoption of the new process the residual elements and harmful elements are rarely seen.

    Laboratory research and process optimization studies have been carried out in order to tackle the difficult problem of the plasticization of non-metallic inclusions in the tire cord steel represented high carbon steel used for high quality wire rod purpose. Non metallic inclusion plasticization control technology for hot metal with w(T.O) content ≤0.002% has been developed and as the results, the evaluation factor of the non-metallic inclusions in steel goes down from above 30 to below 3.5.

    The cause to the clogging of the Submerged Entry Nozzle (SEN) during billet continuous casting of mid-carbon steel as well as the preventative measures have been investigated. The chemical compositions of the clogging materials are analyzed and inclusions in steel samples out of the ladle, tundish and billet observed by the optical microscope and SEM and the total oxygen content across the whole section of the billet quantitatively measured and the nozzle clogging condition numerically simulated. Results show that the clogging materials around the nozzle mainly originate from alumina inclusions and Al2O3-MgO spinels in steel as well as the produce out of the hot metal corrosion on the inner lining of the ladle and tundish and in the meanwhile solutions to the nozzle clogging of the mid carbon steel put forward accordingly..

    CaO-A12O3 based refining slag, containing auxiliary components such as MgO,BaO, CaF2, Na2O is designed by quadratic orthogonal regression method in this paper.Through the systematic experiment research, mathematical model of the relations between the compositions content and the sulfur distribution ratio has been established,and the optimized compositions of the refining slag defined. [%S] in steel could be reduced to 0.000 4 % by using the refining slag.

    Changes of hot ductility of 16Mn steel, 16MnNb steel, 16MnV steel(HSLA) produced by EAF of AnYang Iron&Steel Co.Ltd. have been measured and investigated and the appearance and structure of the fracture of the sample probed and the surface temperatures of the slab in the levelling zone in three different cooling patterns measured and a new cooling pattern designed so as to keep off the brittleness zone at the high temperature side and as the results the problem of the tranverse surfacial crack solved in the end.

    Cause to formation of clogging materials around the nozzle has been discovered by sampling and analyzing the clogging materials around the tundish nozzle in the process of continuously casting the Al steel. Results show that the primary element of the clogging materials at the tundish nozzle is the Al2O3 originating from the remaining Al2O3 inclusions and congregation of the reoxides floating on the surface of the hot metal. The problem has been solved by improvement in the operating process.

    Based on the parameters of metallic charges and other refining parameters from a specific domestic steel works, the appropriate scap charge weight, liquid steel output and iron to steel ratio under the conditions of different hot metal charging amount and different temperatures have been determined by means of calculating the material equilibrium and thermodynamic equilibrium using the material equilibrium and thermodynamic equilibrium method. By analysis on the two factors affecting the change of the iron to steel ratio, namely the hot metal charging temperature and hot metal charging amount the relationship between the iron to steel ratio and scrap charging weight and liquid steel output has been derived and the specific measures to reduce the iron to steel ratio for a 100t converter put forward as well. It can be used as reference material for the other steel-making plants of the similar type.

    Effects of composition on 20CrMnTi gear steel hardenability have been studied by experiment in practice. The hardenability control model which can be applied in practice has been developed on the basis of the hot metal composition adjusting model.. Results show that the hardenability goes up with increase of C 、Mn、Si、Cr content; and when Ti content is about 0.07 % the hardenability is at the highest level; and the hardenability value will go down no matter whether Ti content increase or decrease. By applicating of composition adjusting modle , the fluctuation range of the C, Si, Mn, Cr and Ti is narrow and the narrow band of hardenability was carried out.

    The present paper investigates on the corrosion mechanisms of the non-oriented and oriented electric steel slag of the RH furnace onto the magnesia-zirconia composite brick . Results show that the mechanism of the corrosion resistance of the magnesia-zirconia composite brick against the high CaO containing non-oriented and oriented electric steel slag is found to be the formation of a protective layer mainly composed of the CaZrO3 in high density and on the other hand formation of a protective layer of the CaZrO3 and C2S in high density is the primary mechanism of the corrosion resisitance of the magnesia-zircite brick against the high SiO2和CaO non-oriented electric steel slag. Reaction between the furnace slag and ZrO2 in the raw materials may very well blockade the blowhole in the grain boundary of the periclase so as to stop further corrosion of the furnace slag against the the refractory materials.
