In hot metal desulfurization by pure Mg, problems frequently occur such as insufficient quantity of slag, high sulfur content and less flow-ability in slag , long time span for deslagging (up to 11 minutes) and heavy iron loss (up to 5 kg/t Fe), high resulfurization in steelmaking (up to w(S) 0.005 1 %) in NO.1 Steel-making Plant of WISCO. In order to solve those problems some technological measures have been taken in the Plant The efficiency of hot metal deslagging has been greatly improved ever since by adoption of the air-blow aided deslagging technology in which the air bubbling elements such as porous bricks are installed in the bottom of the ladle, properly selection of material for the air bubbling elements as well as appropriate selection of the installation position and continuously improvement of the technology in the actual production. As the results the average deslaggig time is cut to less than 7 minutes, average iron loss in deslagging declined from 5 kg/tFe to 3.5kg/tFe, average sulphur pick-up is declined from w(S) 0.005 1 % to w(S) 0.002 %,average life length is extended up to 110 .

    Abstract1975)            Save
The present paper studies the process adoptd in refining T91 steel through EAF-LF-VD processing route. To ensure the qualified content of [C] and [P] in liquid steel in the down stream processing steps, it’s of great neccesity to control the content of w(C) and w(P ) separately in 0.02 % and 0.004 %. By appropriately drawing up the alloy schedule and selecting the right alloy elements in LF process, the alloy content in liquid steel can be controlled within the specified limit.. By means of desulphurization in LF and VD vaccuum treatment the w(S ) content in steel can be reduced to below 0.005 %. Research indicates that refining T91 steel by this process is acceptable.

The electrode control system of alternating current electrical arc furnace is a multi-variable, nonlinear, parameter-time-varying and complicated strong coupling system and the classic control strategy is hard to acquire the good performance. Proceeding from actual application of FSF electrode control a variable structure Elman neural network prediction model is proposed based on a new hybrid generic algorithm in this paper.. This improvized hybrid generic algorithm can simultaneously and dynamically optimize the network structure, the weights and self-feedback gain .The improvized BP algorithm based Elman neural network and the variable structure Elman neural network proposed in this paper are both applied in identification of the electrode model. The simulation experiment based on the on-site data of Anyang Steel indicate that the structure variable Elman neural network overcomes the problem of complex network structure, which is brought by the complexity of electrode control system and limitation of weights by BP algorithm. The proposed method based on a new hybrid generic algorithm is of better identification performance ,better dynamic characteristic, quicker approach speed and better precision. Finally, the model applied in parameter tuning of electrode control system obtains the good control result, thus providing a solid theoretical basis for electrode control.

Moreover the process layout is compact; the structure of the main equipments for the process is simple and plant area needed for this subject is small; the speed of the hydraulic tilting pot for the steel slag granulation purpose is adjustable; the controllable range of the granulation cycle is relatively great (within 5 to 15 minutes) and the grain sizes of the steel slag after water quenching are rather homogeneous and of the total slag those in the grain size of less than 5 mm account for over 95%. All those advantages are of great benefits to further application of the steel slag.

A 3dimension model depicting the dynamic growth of the geometrical outline of a cake slab in the process of spray forming has been built up. The influence of various processing parameters such as atomization characteristic value of the nozzle, eccentric distance, rotation speed and withdraw speed of the substrate in the process of spray forming have been fully considered in building up the model. By data processing after calculation a 3dimensional profile of the growth of a cake slab has been obtained. By comparison of the above mentioned profile with that of the cake slab produced by the physical spray forming equipment it's proved that the two different profiles are in perfect agreement with each other and therefore the newly developed model can very effectively predict the outline growth of the cake slab in various processing conditions.

This technology is not only in possession of the advantage of fast solidification, but it also can produce low segregated, fine grained, high density and nearnet shape cake slab with simplified process. Therefore the production cost of the cake slab produced by this technology can be dramatically reduced in comparison with that produced by the traditional powder metallurgical technology. The structure and grain size distribution of the GCr15 cake slab produced by the spray forming technology have been examined and analyzed by optical microscope and SEM. In the meanwhile the density and hardness of the cake slab have also been measured and analyzed. Results show that the structure of spray formed cake slab consists primarily of the isometric crystal and the distribution of its chemical compositions is relatively homogeneous. On the basis of the understanding proper measures to improve the microstructures and properties of the cake slab have been accordingly put forward.

Though the phase composition analysis of nozzle clogging samples from slab continuous casting and the inclusion detection in steel, the clogging mechanisms of submerged nozzle and long nozzle as well as slide gate have been studied by means of SEM. It‘s found that CaO•Al2O3 and CaS are the phases of submerged nozzle clogging, and CaO•2Al2O3 is that of long nozzle and slide gate clogging. Results show that it’s precipitation and adherence of the similar type of inclusions in steel to the inside wall of nozzle that causes to the nozzle clogging. The influences of m(Ca)/m(Al) and [S], [Al] contents in steel on nozzle clogging are discussed. For preventing nozzle clogging, it is suggested that the contents of [S], [Al] should be controlled below the curve of 12CaO•7Al2O3 creation and keep m(Ca)/m(Al) more than 0.13.

Based on the theory of two-dimensional non-steady-state heat transfer model and the law of heat dissipation in the secondary cooling zone of continuous casting, the heat transfer process in between the neighboring pinch rolls is divided into four different processes, namely heat transfers (1) by pinch roll contact, (2) by steam evaporation, (3) by water flushing and (4) by radiation. In light of the current condition of Baosteel 1930 mm slab caster, the mathematical model of solidification and heat transfer in slab continuous casting has been developed. By using the object-oriented computer language Visual Basic 6.0, the computer simulation software of secondary cooling in slab continuous casting has been developed. The infrared ray temperature measurement has been conducted to validate the results of model. The difference between the measured slab temperature and calculated one is less than 20℃,and the deviation range is well controlled within 1.0 %~2.5 %. All this shows that the simulation model and results are good and reliable. By using the simulation software, the secondary cooling system of Baosteel 1930 mm slab caster can be researched and optimized for guiding the practical production.

The effect of carbon containing refractory on the carbon pickup of ultra-low carbon steel (ULC) has been studied in an intermediate frequency induction furnace. In the experiments an Al2O3-C crucible is prepared using the white fused alumina and flake graphite as the starting materials with addition of various antioxidant. Results of the study show that carbon pickup of the liquid steel due to carbon bearing refractory can be very effectively prevented against by addition of certain antioxidant additives into the refractory materials. In adding different kinds of antioxidants to the refractory it’s demonstrated that the best preventative effect is shown on Al, and better is on Si and the worst is on SiC. The primary reason for the preventative effect of the antioxidant additive on the carbon pickup is found to be that by addition of the antioxidant additives the preventability of the refractory against hot metal infiltration as well as corrosion resistance of the refractory can be improved and in the meanwhile the diffusion of carbon in the hot metal has been reduced due to an increase in the viscosity of the hot metal.
