    Research on production capacity and demand of high performance electrical steel in China#br#

    High performance electrical steel is one of the important raw material products indispensable for the modernization construction, highquality development and people's life in China. It is also the development direction of highquality development, product upgrading, energy conservation and environmental protection of electrical steel industry in China.The production capacity of electrical steel, the capacity of normalization (acid pickling), the capacity ,output change and apparent consumption of electrical steel in recent five years, were studied and analyzed in this paper ,as well as the future demands of transformer to high magnetic induction oriented electrical steel (HiB), and medium and small motors, large motors, household appliances, new energy vehicles, emerging fields, etc. to high grade (high efficiency, high magnetic induction) nonoriented electrical steel, and electric power, aerospace, medical devices and household appliances etc. to extremely thin electrical steel strip (the thickness less than 0.1 mm). At the same time, the demand of high performance electrical steel in China is predicted and some suggestions are put forward.

    The development of S15 type ultrahigh energy efficiency transformer based on low loss grainoriented (GO) silicon steel is of great significance for further promoting energy saving and efficiency enhancing of power grid. The magnetic properties and magnetostrictive characteristics of 0.18 mm GO steel, 1K101-S and 1K102-P amorphous alloy were studied using measurement system under arbitrary waveform of magnetic induction. The core losses of 0.18 mm GO steel under harmonic and DCbias were analyzed, and the modeling and simulation analysis of iron core as well as winding of S15 type transformer were carried out by using the MagNet finite element software. When the magnetic flux density is 1.35 T, the core loss of 18QH065 GO steel is as low as 0.349 W/kg, which is approach to the level of amorphous alloy. The magnetic induction B800 of GO steel is 0.32-0.40 T higher than that of amorphous alloy strip. The magnetostrictive coefficient of GO silicon steel is 0.29×10-6, which is lower than that of amorphous alloy by one order of magnitude. Besides, the harmonic loss of 0.18 mm silicon steel is significantly lower than that of 0.23-0.30 mm silicon steels, and the third and fifth harmonic losses under content of 10 % increased by 12.9 % and 16.0 % respectively. DC bias (0-150 A/m) has an obvious effect on the core loss of 0.18 mm GO steel under low magnetic flux density (MFD), while the loss is almost the same after MFD higher than 1.9 T. Finally, the noload loss of designed 10 kV/630 kVA transformer is 392.5 W (31.1 % lower than that of transformer with firstgrade energy efficiency in standard of GB 20052-2013), and the noise is about 10 dB lower than that of amorphous alloy transformer with the same capacity, which means significant advantages of energy conservation and environmental protection.

    The temperature distribution of inner cover was studied by using a simulating software of FLUENT to simulate the hearth model , the single inner cover model and the temperature optimization model of an annular furnace, then an improvement scheme of temperature uniformity was proposed and tested by experiment. The results showed that the temperature difference and magnetic uniformity between top and bottom of the steel coil were successfully optimized by superimposing a heat insulation material on the side of the coil base, which can provide supports for the improvement in magnetic properties of oriented silicon steel.

    This paper introduced the design and manufacturing method of a phaseshifting transformer and its requirements for the quality of silicon steel, and put forward the method of making phaseshifting transformer core with the material of highgrade nonoriented silicon steel. The practice showed that the phaseshifting transformer made of highgrade nonoriented silicon steel can fully meet the national standards and user's requirements, which has little difference in performance with oriented silicon steel. And  most significantly, it has the advantage of greatly reducing material cost, reducing tranformer's noise and eventually improving the production efficiency, which has a wide application value.

    Based on the typical composition of highgrade nonoriented silicon steel, the influence of Mn and Al changes on the equilibrium precipitated phases were studied through thermodynamic simulation calculations. The results showed that the main equilibrium precipitated phases of the highgrade nonoriented silicon steel are AlN, FCC#2, MnS, M3P, M7C3, M23C6 and cementite, FCC#2 phase is a Ti(C,N) compound, and M7C3 and M23C6 are compounds with high Mn content. As the Mn content increases, the transition temperature of MnS precipitation increases sharply. When Mn content is high, with the decrease of temperature, the M7C3 phase will firstly transform into the M5C2 phase then into the M23C6 phase. With the increase of Al content, the transition temperature of Ti (C,N) compounds decreases; the AlN precipitation transition temperature increases. the Al content has a smaller effect on the MnS, M3P, M7C3, and M23C6 phases.

    The requirements for electromagnetic properties of silicon steel for high voltage motors are gradually improved as the continuous upgrading of products in downstream electric machinery plant. In this circumstance, BenGang Steel Plates Co. Ltd. has succeeded in developing a nonoriented silicon steel 50BW600 by reasonably designing the chemical composition of the product and its rolling process, and using the cover annealing process to replace the normal process, and improving the continuous annealing system, which were combined with the company's existing technical equipment capacity. The developed nonoriented silicon steel 50BW600 accords with expected target on the electromagnetic performance, with the iron loss less than 3.7 W/kg and the magnetic induction higher than 1.68 T, meeting the supply standard, and enhancing the market competitiveness of the product.

    In this paper, the samples of a highgrade nonoriented silicon steel with different thickness of C6 coating were prepared and tested to compare their conventional magnetic properties. The results showed that the magnetic polarization decreased monotonously, and the iron loss increased monotonously, as the thickness of the samples' coating gradually increased, and the more accurate correction value of those data was also obtained. The work in this paper has certain reference significance for the design of large motor and the application of highgrade nonoriented silicon steel with C6 coating.

    Insulation performance is an important index of oriented silicon steel. The effects of the coating sintering temperature, the silica sol content in coating solution and the coating amount on the insulation property of the oriented silicon steel were studied in this paper. And the research indicated: As the sintering temperature increases, microscopic cracks gradually appear on the coating surface. After the annealing temperature reaches 900 ℃, the coating surface cracks will increase sharply and lead to the decrease of the coating insulation. At the same sintering temperature, increasing the content of SiO2 in the coating solution will lead to micro-cracks on the coating surface, which is not conductive to the insulation performance of the coating. At the same sintering temperature, increasing the coating amount is beneficial to increasing the interlayer resistance of the steel plate. When the sintering temperature is 850 ℃ and the coating amount is 6 g/m2, the interlayer resistance of the steel plate can reach 82.6 Ω·cm2.

    Precipitation behavior of sulfide inclusions and changes of microstructure and  electromagnetic properties in high sulfur nonoriented silicon steel sheets

    In order to find out the precipitation behavior of sulfide inclusions and the corresponding changes of microstructure and electromagnetic properties of high sulfur nonoriented silicon steel sheets, so that to design more suitable sulfur concentration controlling limit for industrial manufacture and to release the steelmaking difficulty effectively, the type and composition, the size and number, and the size distribution of sulfide inclusion and the changes of finished sample microstructure and electronmagnetic properties in 0.25 % Si non oriented silicon steel sheets with different sulfur content of 0.006 8 %, 0.010 2 %, 0.025 3 % and 0.035 3 %(mass fraction) were discussed by the methods of electrolysis extraction in a non aqueous solution and SEM/TEM. The results showed that for present work, as the increase of sulfur content from 0.006 8 %  to  0.035 3 %, the types of sulfide inclusions in steel will gradually change from MnS to MnS+Cu2S, even to Cu2S, together with the number increasing, while in terms of  size, some sulfide inclusions will get larger, and some will be found more small repectively, which cause the recrystallization structure of hot rolled strips getting bad and restrain the grain growth in finished steel sheets. And it can be also found that the iron loss and magnetic induction of finished steel sheet gradually get worse as the addtion of sulfur content in steel. That is, when the sulfur content increases by 0.01 % for average, the eddy loss, hysteresis loss will increase by 0.24 W/kg  and  0.41 W/kg  respectively, and correspondingly the magnetic induction will decrease by 0.009 T . But the iron loss can still be kept less than  6.0 W/kg  when the sulfur content gets to  0.010 2 % , and the magnetic induction kept more than  1.75 T  when the sulfur content gets to  0.025 5 % .These important conclusions can help in designing more suitable sulfur content controlling limit in production, which can both decrease the manufacturing cost and increase the production efficiency of steel making, on the premise of satisfying the requirements of high grade customers.

    The temperature effects on the properties of intermediate frequency thingauge nonoriented silicon steel, especially on the magnetic and mechanical properties of the silicon steel of 0.25 mm thickness in the temperature range from -40 ℃ to 200 ℃ and the frequency of 400 Hz and 1 000 Hz,were investigated based on the practical working conditions. The results showed that the iron loss and magnetic induction of 0.25 mm thick intermediate frequency thingauge nonoriented silicon steel, decreased with the increase of temperature, and the yield strength decreased monotonously with the increase of temperature, while the tensile strength firstly decreased and then increased with an inflection point near 150 ℃.

    The effect of hot rolling heating temperature on microstructure and precipitates of 3.0 % Si nonoriented silicon steel was studied. The results showed that there was a structure gradient along the thickness direction of the hot rolling plate, and spherical and irregular precipitates were distributed in the grains. With the increase of the hot rolling heating temperature, the width of the fibrous deformation zone in the middle layer became narrow. When the temperature increased to 1 150 ℃, the number of AlN precipitates less than 100 nm increased. After normalizing at 900 ℃, the microstructure of the hot rolled plate was completely recrystallized, and the homogeneity of the microstructure was improved, the precipitates were aggregated and coarsened. With the increase of the hot rolling heating temperature, the average grain size of the normalized hot rolled plate decreased, and the number of precipitates more than 100 nm increased, in addition, the number of AlN, AlN + Ti composite precipitates in the range of 20-100 nm increased gradually.

    The effect of cold rolling thickness on microstructure and magnetic properties of  3.0 %  Si non oriented silicon steel was investigated in this paper. The results showed that, when the coldrolling thickness reduced from 0.35 mm to 0.27 mm, the grain size was decreased from 104 μm to 89 μm, and the iron losses of both  P1.5/50 and  P1.0/400 were respectively decreased from 2.186 W/kg to 2.139 W/kg and from 16.978 W/kg to 13.978 W/kg, and the magnetic induction of B50 was decreased from 1.684 T to  1.662 T. Meanwhile, as the decrease of cold rolling thickness, the proportion of eddy current loss was decreased, with the decrease of the texture orientation of {112}〈110〉 and the increase of {111}〈110〉.

    The causes of the longitudinal cutting burr of cold rolled silicon steel CS unit were described, on which the influences of the factors such as the side clearance, overlap, precision and edge state of the cutting edge, and the accuracy of the longitudinal shearing machine were analyzed. Then the treatment method of dealing with the longitudinal cutting burr error was put forward, that was applying a designed new burr cleaning device. The practice showed that the finished product burr of cold rolled silicon steel has been successfully controlled in less than 0.01 mm by using the new device, which can satisfy  customers' requirements, and make great reference to improve the shear quality and the yield.

    The welding technology of high grade nonoriented silicon steel in acid continuous rolling units was researched in this paper , and the key and main factors of affecting the weld joint quality of high grade nonoriented silicon steel, such as the welding speed, the weld gap, the annealing current, the defocus amount, were defined. Meanwhile, by analyzing the actual microstructures of weld joints of different silicon steels varied with different silicon content under different annealing current, it was found that the self properties of different silicon steels make great effect on the passing compacity of weld joints. So then the improvment suggestions were put forward, which were proved that passing compacity of weld joints has been really improved in actual production.

The chemical compostion, hot rolling and cold rolling processes of the high punching 50BW600 nonoriented silicon steel were researched in this paper, and  the factors affecting electromagnetic performances of the product were found out by analyzing the product's structure and performance.By optimizing the production process, then, the prodcut's qualities have been successfully improved,   which can satisfy the user's requirements on the performance index of the product .

    Three types of nodules, which were found in carbon sleeves of continous annealing units of silicon steel of Maanshan Iron and Steel Co.  Ltd., were studied in this paper, and the forming reasons were also analyzed combined with the actual production situation. The results showed that surface corrosion of carbon sleeves by Hydrogen formed pits, which would provide adhesion positions for nodulation, and the formed nodules were mainly compounded with residual oil and iron, furnace dust and iron scale. By reducing the mass fraction of hydrogen to 5 %-10 % in the protective atmosphere of annealing furnace, and monitoring the electric conductivity of the cleaning section, and standardizing the production system and other measures, the nodulation occurrence of carbon sleeves was effectively reduced.

    In view of the existing problems in the original combustion control system of continuous annealing furnace, the heating section of radiant tube was optimized. Based on DCS distributed control system of YOKOGAWA, the proportion of air and COG and other influencing factors were analyzed, and the ralationship among these control parameters  was established, so then the transfer function of annealing furnace combustion system was successfully enduced. By using the method of timing pulse combustion control to optimize the heating section of radiant tube, which was proved to have a remarkable effect on energy conservation and environmental protection, the control accuracy was optimized, and the surface oxidation of strip steel was reduced , and the heating efficiency was improved at the same time.

    Bare crystal is one of surface quality problems and may show its features in different extents, such as point bare crystal in small scale or large areas of bare crystals. The morphologies and local compositions of some kinds of point bare crystals in low temperature heated and nitriding grain oriented steels were examined in this paper, and the possible reasons for their formation were analyzed and suggested. The results showed that at least three kinds of point bare crystals are observed, namely, the one containing only steel matrix compositions without glass layer and insulating layer, the one that contains insulating layer but without glass layers and the one that contains a Mgrich ring band around it and lose its glass layer or insulating layer in different extents in the center. The reasons of the formation of the point bare crystals should be diverse because of the variety in their morphologies and local composition.

    In order to study the effect of rare earth yttrium (Y) on the magnetic properties of cold rolled high silicon steel sheets,  6.5 %  Si high silicon steel sheets with three different Y contents (without rare earth, containing  0.012 %Y  and  0.030 %  Y) were taken as research objects, and hot rolling, warm rolling, cold rolling and annealing processes were adopted to prepare  0.2  mm thick high silicon steel sheets. The effects of rare earth Y on the structure, texture and magnetic properties of the high silicon steel sheets were analyzed by means of metallographic microscope (OM, optical microscope), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The results showed that the average grain sizes of annealed sheets gradually decreased with the increase of Y content, which were 194 μm, 125 μm and 84 μm, respectively. And as the increase of Y content, the {100} texture was continuously weakened, and the overall intensity of η (〈100〉//RD) texture increased first and then decreased, while the intensity of harmful γ (〈111〉//ND) texture decreased first and then increased. When the mass fraction of Y content was  0.012 % , although the core losses at the frequencies of 50~ 1 000  Hz were slightly higher than that of the high silicon steel without Y, the magnetic induction of B50 was the highest ( 1.647 T ) due to the enhancing η texture and the weakening γ texture.

    The steelmaking production of high grade nonoriented silicon steel 50W350 was introduced at Lianyuan Iron and Steel Group Co.,Ltd.(Liangang), from production organization, preparation of raw and auxiliary materials to process and composition control. And the ladle top slag, continuous casting protection slag and inclusion were also briefly analyzed and studied. The production practice showed that Liangang has the ability to produce high grade nonoriented silicon steel 50W350, of which the trail production has reached the expected target, meeting customers’ requirement on quality.

    The high grade non oriented silicon steel samples of 3.2 % Si were firstly normalized at different temperatures, and then rolled and annealed in the same way, and at last the precipitates in the steel samples were observed in this paper. The results of the precipitate observation showed that the precipitate size in normalized plates was gradually increased and the areal density of  the precipitate gradually decreased as the normalizing temperatures increased, while  in final annealed plates the areal density of  the precipitate was firstly decreased and then increased. And meanwhile, it can be found that the amounts of the precipitaes with the size from 50 to 100 nm were maximized  when the normalizing temperature was set between 850 ℃ and 950 ℃.

    The microstructure, texture and magnetic properties of  1.1 %  Si non oriented silicon steel with normalizing and non normalizing were analyzed by the technology of XRD, EBSD and magnetic property measuring device. The results showed that normalizing treatment can increase the grain size of steel and make the microstructure more uniform, and optimize the magnetic properties. On the treatment of 980 ℃× 140 s normalizing, the average size of the microstructure of hot rolled product increases by about 23 μm, and the grain size of the final product increases by about 12 μm. And meanwhile, the {100} texture of the structure increases by about  3.0 % , the {111} texture decreases by about  2.6 % , the {100} texture of the finished product increases by about  0.43 % , the {111} texture decreases by about  6.5 % , and magnetic induction of  B50 increases by 0.021 T,iron loss of P1.5/50 decreases by 0.34 W/kg.

    In order to explore the influence of blanking process on the insulation of blanking surface of cast aluminum core, highprecision shearing machine was used to simulate the influence of different gaps on the section morphology and burr height of nonoriented silicon steel used for constant frequency compressor after blanking, and then the influence of different blanking process on the blue insulation of blanking surface of cast aluminum core was determined. The results showed that, as the relative clearance of blanking increased from 8 % to 18 %, the proportion of bright zone in cross section decreased from 72.5 % to 45.5 %, and the reaction time of cupric sulfate titration increased from 191 s to 232 s, and the burr height increased from 2.6 μm to 9.1 μm. The optimal die clearance of nonoriented silicon steel for constant frequency compressor should be controlled between 10 % and 15 %.

    The mechanical properties of high grade nonoriented electrical steels which were processed by three different methods of punching machine, milling machine and laser, were analyzed through tensile test and microstrtucture analysis. The results showed that, in  the aspect of processing surface, the milling and laser machining surfaces are more regular and smooth than that of punch processing. And for burr, the burr in punch processing is the most serious, laser cutting secondly, milling machine processing for the best. At the same time, it can be seen that in order to reduce the effects of processing methods on the high grade nonoriented electrical steel's mechanical properties, using laser cutting technology to instead traditional punch processing is feasible when using such materials.

    Combined with the performance parameters of the cold rolling continuous annealing unit in the production of strip steels in Qiansteel, both the diameter, the material, the strip cladding angle and the tension amplification coefficient of No.1 tension roller in the entrance section of the unit, and the relevant parameters of reducer, drive motor were designed and accounted in this paper. The results showed that the checked power of the motor met the actual needs of production, which can provide reference to the design of similar units.

Ltd., and combining with long time's solving experience , the troubleshooting and solution was systematically researched and summarized in this paper. Then two diagrams were refined which can helpfully find out the reason and solution of occuring problem of the spot cooling system. The actual pratice showed that this method can successfully and rapidly solve many problems of the spot cooling system.

    The patent quantity of cold rolled oriented silicon steel coating and distribution of technology fields applied in China from 1999 to 2019 were summarized. The analysis results indicated that,there are 121 patents of coldrolled oriented silicon steel coating applied in China, 96 patents applied by native producers and 25 patents applied by abroad producers.The typical patent technology include improving forsterrite quality, no forming forsterrite, containing chromate insulating coating and chromiumfree and environment friendly coating and so on,The developing trend of silicon steel coating is mainly chromiumfree and environment friendly insulating coating.

    On-line determined core loss data are massively produced during production of electrical steels and these data provide timely much more and much valuable information for the evaluation and adjustment of product properties. However, the application of such data for property evaluation and control is still far from satisfactory in steel plants, namely neither are they used for the evaluation of whole coil of a steel strip and determination of the effects of parameter changes on the magnetic properties, nor for the further selfdiagnosis of different kinds of problems reflected in the online core loss curves. This work collects some online core loss curves and analyzes their features and possible existing problems or phenomena based on the difficulties encountered during searching the relationship between processing parameters and magnetic properties. Suggestions for evaluating the properties of whole coils of electrical steel strips quantitatively are given and a preliminary version of software is compiled hoping that this may get the attention from industry to best making use of online core loss data for evaluating properties of whole coils of strips.
