Development of cold rolled pole sheet steel DEL550 for hydrogenerators

A cold rolled pole sheet steel with high strength, high magnetic induction intensity and high dimensional accuracy was developed in this paper. In order to find the proper components and technologies of the cold rolled pole sheet steel, the microstructures, mechanical properties and magnetic properties of the test steels with different components were analyzed. The results showed that the 550 MPa pole sheet steel with the component of C  0.69 %,Si 0.42 %,Mn 1.25 %,P≤0.010 %,S≤0.005 %,Als 0.033 %,Ti 0.088 % and Nb 0.039 % will get the best properties by proper technologies. The microstructure of the steel is ferrite and free cementite with the grain size of grade 12, and the yield strength is more than 550 MPa, and the elongation reaches above 10 %, and the magnetic properties are also excellent with the magnetic induction intensity B50 above 1.50 T.

By studying the microstructure, phase transformation and mechanical properties of the low reheating temperature grain oriented electrical steel, the mechanism of the production of crisp edge was proposed in this paper. The edge quality of the grain oriented electrical steel has been improved by optimizing the slab load mode and edge heating mode,which was helpful to increase the non-trimming cold rolled rate as well as the finished product rate and reduce the production costs.

The effects of laser scribing on the core loss and noise performance of grain-oriented silicon steel were studied with different input power. The results showed that the core loss of the grain-oriented silicon steel was improved by laser scribing with different input power, and the improvement rate of core loss was more than 10 %. However, the influence of different input power on the noise performance of grain-oriented silicon steel was different. The higher the power was, the greater the depth and width of the notch would get, which increased the internal stress of the steel plate when heated to a higher temperature, and the new closed magnetic domain would lead to decrease the noise performance of the grain-oriented silicon steel.

The grain-oriented silicon steel was produced by thin slab continuous casting and rolling technology in a steel company, and the grain-oriented silicon steel of high magnetic induction was produced by CSP and low temperature heating once cold rolling process. The processes of converter smelting, LF refining, RH vacuum treatment, slab continuous casting and hot rolling were optimized in the production. The whole hot metal smelting process was adopted, and ferrosilicon and tin ingots were added after pre-deoxidation in tapping steel for alloying, and refining slag adjusting agent was used in LF refining process to ensure the effect of top slag submerged arc, and light treatment mode was adopted in RH vacuum treatment to carry out vacuum circulation, and the whole protective pouring process was adopted.These optimizing measures realized to reasonably control the content of N and other components in moten steel and finished products, such as the total oxygen content of slab controlled between 0.000 7 % and 0.002 4 % , and the nitrogen content between 0.007 1 % and 0.008 1 %, which made the grain-oriented silicon steel meet the needs of the next cold rolling process.

In order to satisfy the performance requirements of high efficient refrigerator compressor motors, a high grade non-oriented electrical steel product was successfully developed through the processes of composition design, RH refining, continuous casting, hot rolling, single cold reducing, continuous annealing, finish packing and so on. And in magnetic property testing, the iron loss P1.5/50 of the high grade non-oriented electrical steel  was 2.73 W/kg and the magnetic induction B50 was 1.70 T. The finished product has been applied to high efficient refrigerator compressor industry and used to make motor stators. The average iron loss P1.5/50 of the motor stator after annealing was 1.8 W/kg and after the motor stator assembeled into the whole machine, the motor efficiency was more than 86 %. It is proved that the researched high grade non-oriented electrical steel satisfies the performance requirements of high efficient refrigerator compressor motors.

The surface quality of nonoriented silicon steel is one of the important indicators of the product. During the production of a nonoriented silicon steel, the black spot defects appeared on the steel surface had a great impact on the stability of the production line and the product yield. Through macro observation and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy spectrum analysis, onsite simulation experiments, etc., the causes of black spots were studied. The results showed that the direct cause of the black spots was related to the "splash" of the coating liquid, and the occurrence of the defects was related to the operating state of the coating machine and the coating roller.

The output of silicon steel has been continuously improved in CSP plant of Wuhan Iron and Steel Co. Ltd.. Due to the characteristics of the same width rolling, the problem of poor cross section of silicon steel was gradually exposed. In viewing of the existing problem of the poor cross section, the control ability of equal proportion convexity, the roll shifting and the roll wear were analyzed through optimization of the original SMS two load  allocation plan. The results showed that the adjusted process can not only satisfy the condition of good steel plant shape but also get a great improvement on the roll wear, the steel crown, the wedge precision and the cross section control.

The oxide skin structures of high grade non-oriented silicon steel and carbon steel produced by hot rolling were comparative analyzed. A series of pickling experiments were carried out on a normalizing and pickling production line of silicon steel. The influences of pickling temperature, acid concentration and shot blasting on pickling time and effect were investigated. It is considered that the difficulty in pickling the oxide sheet on the surface of high grade non-oriented silicon steel was due to its special structure. The parameters of pickling process suitable for industrial production of high grade non-oriented silicon steel were given.
