Abstract: Grain-oriented silicon steel is a critical soft magnetic material, and the silicate magnesium layer is an integral part of the product structure, which presents significant challenges in control. The quality of the silicate magnesium layer has a profound impact on the surface quality of grainoriented silicon steel. The uncertainty in factors such as the oxide layer, annealing atmosphere, annealing temperature, and magnesium oxide can lead to defects in the final silicon steel product, thereby limiting, to some extent, the development of the grain-oriented silicon steel industry. Therefore, this paper summarized the influence of these factors on the silicate magnesium layer based on the process characteristics of grain-oriented silicon steel and the research conducted both domestically and internationally. Additionally, it identifies areas that require further study in the future.

Key words: grain-oriented silicon steel, magnesium silicate bottom layer, oxide layer, magnesium oxide, annealing parameter
